Public Lecture Series Language and Power

The interdisciplinary lecture series  "The Language of Power. The Power of Language" explores language, communication, and power throughout the Fall Semester 2026.

Researchers from linguistics, sociology, cultural studies, psychology, history, and other disciplines examine how language shapes social and political processes. Topics include propaganda, hate speech, political and religious conspiracy narratives, climate discourse, trauma, nationalism, as well as the role of artificial intelligence and social media. Spanning from antiquity to the present day, the lectures explore developments across different regions of the world.

Programme

The lecture series is open to the public, and everyone is welcome to attend. A registration is not possible. Students also have the opportunity to earn ECTS credits for participating.

The lectures may be attended individually without prior registration. Each lecture is held either in German or English; the language of instruction is indicated in the programme.
